Market Swine Project
We learn about the different breeds of hogs, what to look for in selecting a pig, how to care for a pig, different meat cuts, and how to show a pig for the Santa Clara County Fair and auction.
Minimum age is 9 (as of December 31).
Costs: The Clover Foundation provides a no interest livestock loan, if needed.
Meetings: Every other week starting in January, then every Sunday once we have hogs at the ranch (April through July) from 4:30pm to 6:00pm.
Generally, we buy our hogs the first weekend in April, and they are communally raised where the commitment and responsibility is divided up between those in the project to feed and clean on average 1 day per week.
